2025 NBA Playoff Race: Standings and Projections

NBA News

With the NBA regular season entering its final two weeks of 2024-25, the playoff landscape is becoming clearer. As teams and fans closely monitor the standings, we provide daily updates on the playoff picture until Sunday, April 13.

In the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder have secured the top seed and home-court advantage for at least the first three playoff rounds, surpassing 60 wins this season. In the East, the Cleveland Cavaliers are leading the Boston Celtics by five games for the top seed. The New York Knicks have also clinched a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference after the Atlanta Hawks lost on Friday.

While the Thunder`s top spot in the West is confirmed, the battle for the second seed remains competitive. The Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Memphis Grizzlies are all vying for the No. 2 position. The race for the sixth and final guaranteed playoff spot in the West is also heating up, with the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, and Minnesota Timberwolves in contention.

In the Eastern Conference, the likely playoff teams are almost set, with the Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, and Brooklyn Nets seemingly focused on the draft lottery rather than the Play-In Tournament. The Atlanta Hawks, Orlando Magic, Chicago Bulls, and Miami Heat are expected to compete in the East`s play-in games in 2025. In the West, the Phoenix Suns are aiming for the last postseason spot, needing to overtake the Dallas Mavericks or Sacramento Kings to reach the playoffs.

  • Oklahoma City Thunder: No. 1 seed in the West

Reminder: The top six teams from each conference are guaranteed a playoff spot. The Play-In Tournament will determine the final four playoff spots, featuring teams ranked 7-10 in each conference. The seventh-ranked team hosts the eighth-ranked team for the No. 7 seed. The loser of that game plays the winner of the game between the ninth and tenth-ranked teams for the No. 8 seed.

The Eastern Conference`s top six teams are largely set as the regular season winds down. In the Western Conference, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Clippers are looking to overtake the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets.
