As the Stanley Cup Playoffs continue, the NHL is revealing the finalists for its major awards for the 2024-25 season.
During the 2025 NHL Draft Lottery, the league announced the finalists for the Calder Trophy, awarded to the top rookie. The three nominees are Macklin Celebrini (San Jose Sharks), Lane Hutson (Montreal Canadiens), and Dustin Wolf (Calgary Flames).
Lane Hutson made history, becoming only the fourth defenseman in the modern era (post-1943) to lead all rookies in scoring with 66 points. This places him alongside legends like Bobby Orr, Brian Leetch, and Quinn Hughes. His 60 assists also tied Larry Murphy`s record for a rookie defenseman. Should Hutson win the Calder, he would be the third Canadiens player to do so in the expansion era, following Brendan Gallagher and Ken Dryden.
Aleksander Barkov was recently announced as the winner of the Selke Trophy, marking his second consecutive win. He triumphed over fellow finalists Anthony Cirelli and Sam Reinhart, recognized for his exceptional two-way play. Barkov captained the Panthers to a top-10 finish in goals-against per game (seventh, 2.72) and tenth in penalty killing percentage (80.7%).
The remaining NHL Awards are being announced daily through mid-May. The 2025 NHL Awards ceremony is scheduled for June 2025, with the specific date still to be determined.
