Alex Pereira Considered Withdrawing from UFC 313 Ankalaev Fight, But Has No Regrets

MMA News

UFC commentator Joe Rogan recently suggested on his podcast that Alex Pereira fought Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313 with a broken hand and norovirus. However, Pereira clarified that this wasn`t entirely accurate.

While “Poatan” confirmed he wasn`t in peak condition for the fight, he stated in an interview that his hands were not injured.

Pereira explained that he prefers not to make excuses or diminish his opponent`s victory, even if he disagrees with the fight`s outcome. He acknowledged facing challenges before the fight, similar to any athlete, but emphasized that his hand was not the issue. He hinted at significant difficulties leading up to the event, which he may discuss publicly later.

According to Pereira, the undisclosed issues were serious enough for him to contemplate withdrawing from the fight altogether. Despite the challenges, he chose to compete and stands by his decision.

“It was one of the toughest fights due to everything that happened,” Pereira said. “I don’t regret fighting. My career achievements and ability to inspire others are important to me, and I pushed through a difficult situation, similar to past experiences. This time the outcome wasn`t a win, but I still don`t regret it.”

Pereira mentioned that upon rewatching UFC 313, he scored the fight 48-47 in his favor, believing he won rounds 1, 3, and 5. He is focused on securing a rematch with Ankalaev.

“A rematch is what I want, and I`m not interested in any other fight,” Pereira asserted. “Considering my track record, I believe I deserve this opportunity. However, discussions with the UFC are still pending.”

Ankalaev has indicated on social media that a rematch in August is being considered, suggesting he has accepted a UFC offer. Pereira confirmed he hasn`t received an official offer yet but is open to an August rematch.

“I`ll be ready,” Pereira stated regarding a potential August fight date.

“I`m eager for the rematch, and I expect it to be a different fight,” he concluded. “I believe I have the ability to dominate this opponent.”
