Alex Perez and Steve Erceg are both in urgent need of a victory.
The UFC announced Sunday that veteran flyweight contenders Alex Perez and Steve Erceg are scheduled to face off at UFC Vegas 109 on August 9th. The event`s main attraction was also confirmed as the previously reported middleweight bout between Roman Dolidze and Anthony Hernandez.
While both fighters are ranked in the top 15 of the MMA Fighting Global Rankings (Perez at No. 10 and Erceg at No. 12), the former title challengers are currently struggling to perform at their best.
Alex Perez (25-9) has only managed one win in his last five appearances. He broke a three-fight losing streak, which included a defeat to then-champion Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255, with a knockout victory over Matheus Nicolau. However, his most recent bout against Tatsura Taira in June 2024 ended in a loss after he sustained a knee injury.
Steve Erceg (12-4) is similarly on a losing streak that began following his recent title challenge. The Australian fighter lost a competitive decision to champion Alexandra Pantoja at UFC 301 and has since suffered defeats in his subsequent two fights against Kai Kara-France and Brandon Moreno.
