Belal Muhammad Breaks Silence on UFC 315 Defeat

MMA News

Belal Muhammad is already looking ahead after a disappointing loss in his first championship defense.

Known as “Remember the Name”, Muhammad was defeated by Jack Della Maddalena via decision in the main event of UFC 315, resulting in the loss of his welterweight title. The intense five-round battle saw Della Maddalena emerge victorious on all three judges` scorecards, two of which were narrow 48-47 scores.

Following the event on Saturday, Muhammad took to social media to offer a brief comment on the outcome and his plans moving forward.

Muhammad posted, “Allah’s plan is the best plan. Alhamdillah for everything. Thank you to all my supporters. I been here before and I’ll be back.”

This defeat is Muhammad`s first in over six years, dating back to a unanimous decision loss against Geoff Neal. He had built an impressive 11-fight unbeaten streak, which included a no-contest against Leon Edwards in 2021 due to an accidental eye poke that prematurely ended the fight. Muhammad later avenged this by winning a dominant decision over Edwards at UFC 304 to claim the welterweight championship.

Unfortunately, after failing to secure a successful title defense, Muhammad finds himself back among the division`s contenders. An immediate rematch with Della Maddalena appears unlikely, especially with other contenders vying for a title shot and potential shifts in the division, including lightweight champion Islam Makhachev expressing interest in the 170-pound belt.

Potential future opponents for Muhammad include the undefeated Shavkat Rakhmonov (who was initially set to challenge for the title at UFC 310 before Muhammad withdrew due to injury), Ian Machado Garry, or Sean Brady (whom Muhammad has previously defeated). The results of upcoming fights, such as Gilbert Burns vs. Michael Morales or Kamaru Usman vs. Joaquin Buckley, could also play a role in shaping the welterweight landscape and determining Muhammad`s next challenge.
