Bronny James Impresses in Best NBA Game Yet

NBA News

The Los Angeles Lakers have been holding steady even with LeBron James absent from the lineup. Despite losing to the Milwaukee Bucks 118-89 on Thursday, they maintain a 3-3 record since the four-time MVP sustained a groin injury against the Boston Celtics. Fortunately, even without their legendary player, the Lakers still have another James on the team.

This is LeBron’s son, Bronny James, who played for 30 minutes on Thursday and made a significant impact. In that time, he scored 17 points, hitting 7 of 10 shots. While his score tied with Dalton Knecht for the team’s highest in the game, his standout moment, reminiscent of his father’s play style, was a remarkable pass.

The elder James is famous for his quick outlet passes in transition. Bronny showcased a similar skill, setting up teammate Markieff Morris for an easy layup in the second quarter.

The younger James has struggled to secure consistent playing time, even with the Lakers facing recent injuries. Before Thursday, his longest game was under 16 minutes, and he had not reached double-digit scoring.

However, Thursday presented a unique opportunity for him to demonstrate his NBA readiness. The Lakers were missing not only his father but also all their usual starters except Jaxson Hayes. This opened up substantial minutes in the backcourt, and James played effectively enough to retain them over other reserves. This performance marked his most significant progress as a professional, at least in the NBA.

James has been successful in the G-League this season, averaging over 20 points in nine games. He still has development ahead before he can consistently play alongside his father. He is smaller for a defensive guard, under 6-foot-2, and his jump shot is still developing.

Nevertheless, Bronny was once considered a potential first-round draft pick, and Thursday’s game offered a glimpse into that potential. He is gradually improving. While this game might not immediately place him in the Lakers’ playoff rotation, it is a promising indication of his future.
