Capitals vs. Islanders Ticket Prices Skyrocket as Ovechkin Nears Gretzky’s Record

With Alex Ovechkin just one goal away from breaking Wayne Gretzky`s all-time scoring record, fans are eager to see history in person. For those hoping to attend Sunday`s game against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena, tickets are now extremely expensive.

Ovechkin tied Gretzky`s record with his 894th career goal on Friday. His next goal will be a record-breaker. As the Washington Capitals prepare to face the Islanders, ticket prices have dramatically increased in recent days.

According to TickPick, the lowest available ticket price for the Capitals vs. Islanders game is currently $600. This will get you a seat in the upper levels of UBS Arena. Fans who planned ahead could have secured much cheaper tickets.

The cheapest ticket sold for this game all season was only $48. As recently as Thursday, the lowest price was $163. While still a significant amount, it is over $400 less than the current price.

These high prices might be justified if Ovechkin scores his record-breaking goal on Sunday. However, it`s not a certainty. Although Ovechkin has scored 44 goals against the Islanders throughout his career, he has never scored against Ilya Sorokin, who is expected to be the Islanders` goalie for this game.

Even if the Islanders` net is empty, it`s unlikely Ovechkin will attempt to score his record-breaking goal in that way. He has stated he doesn`t want to surpass Gretzky with an empty-net goal.
