Carlos Alcaraz defeated Lorenzo Musetti to win the Monte-Carlo Masters for the first time in his career, securing his first ATP Masters 1000 title in over a year.
Alcaraz, the current Wimbledon and French Open champion, reached his first final at this level since his victory at Indian Wells in March 2024.
Despite breaking Musetti`s serve in the opening game of the first set, Alcaraz faced a tough challenge as he lost the first set. Musetti fought back immediately, breaking Alcaraz`s serve in the subsequent game and eventually taking the set 6-3 after winning four games in a row.
However, Alcaraz responded strongly in the second set, breaking Musetti`s serve in his first service game and demonstrating his determination. He continued to dominate, quickly establishing a 4-0 lead and winning the second set convincingly 6-1.
Carrying his momentum into the third set, Alcaraz broke Musetti`s serve in the first game again and extended his advantage. Musetti appeared to be struggling physically in the third set, requiring medical attention after falling behind in the first three games.
Ultimately, Alcaraz secured victory, converting his first championship point to win the match in three sets: 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Following his win, Alcaraz acknowledged that it wasn`t his preferred way to win but expressed his happiness with the victory. He described the week as challenging and expressed satisfaction that his hard work had paid off.
This is Alcaraz`s second title of the year, adding to his Rotterdam Open win in February, and his sixth Masters 1000 title overall. This victory serves as a significant confidence boost for the Spaniard as he prepares for the upcoming major tournaments.
