Following recent exchanges with Ilia Topuria, Charles Oliveira has clearly stated his next desired fight.
The former UFC lightweight champion posted a video on Instagram, directly appealing to UFC President Dana White, matchmaker Sean Shelby, and executive Hunter Campbell to arrange a rematch against Islam Makhachev.
“I want to compete during International Fight Week,” Oliveira stated, referencing UFC 317, a planned pay-per-view event on June 28 in Las Vegas. “Makhachev also desires this fight. Dana, Sean Shelby, Hunter, let`s make it happen. This is the fight I truly want. I am determined to reclaim the belt and become champion once again. UFC, let`s make it a reality. This is the fight everyone is eager to witness. I am prepared.”
Oliveira was defeated by Makhachev via submission in October 2022 for the vacant title. Since then, his record is 2 wins and 1 loss. His wins were dominant performances against Beneil Dariush and Michael Chandler, earning him bonuses, while the loss was a close decision against Arman Tsarukyan. Makhachev has been undefeated since defeating Oliveira, securing four consecutive victories against Alexander Volkanovski (twice), Dustin Poirier, and Renato Moicano.
“Makhachev has indicated his willingness for this fight, and it promises to be a significant battle,” Oliveira commented. “International Fight Week – is this the fight you want? If so, you will get it. Dana, UFC, Sean, Hunter, let`s finalize it. Contact me.”
“Do Bronx” mentioned considering a rematch with Max Holloway for the BMF title as an alternative if the Makhachev rematch for June doesn`t materialize. He also expressed disinterest in facing Topuria in his division, considering it not a “big fight,” which provoked a reaction from Topuria on social media.
“There are many individuals in UFC and MMA who are excessive talkers,” Oliveira remarked in his video. “I can discuss UFC history. I am approaching 15 years in this organization. I hold records for bonuses and submissions. A record-breaker? That is me.”
