As the Stanley Cup Playoffs are underway, the National Hockey League has started revealing the finalists for its major awards for the 2024-25 season.
On Monday, the league announced the finalists for the Vezina Trophy, an award recognizing the top goaltender in the NHL. The three candidates vying for the honor were revealed.
Connor Hellebuyck, the reigning Vezina winner from the Winnipeg Jets, had an exceptional season. Playing 63 games for the Presidents` Trophy-winning Jets, he recorded a 47-12-3 record along with a 2.01 goals-against-average, a .925 save percentage, and eight shutouts. His stellar performance led the league in wins, GAA, and shutouts, while his save percentage was the second-highest, just behind Anthony Stolarz of the Toronto Maple Leafs (.926).
Should Hellebuyck secure the Vezina Trophy again this year, he would enter an exclusive group of goaltenders, becoming just the fourth player to win the award in consecutive seasons. He would join the ranks of Martin Brodeur, Dominik Hasek, and Patrick Roy. The most recent to achieve this feat was Martin Brodeur, who won back-to-back Vezinas in 2007 and 2008 as a member of the New Jersey Devils.
The announcements for the remaining NHL Awards are scheduled to continue daily through mid-May. The 2025 NHL Awards ceremony is slated for June 2025; however, an exact date has not yet been determined.
