UFC President Dana White has announced that the highly anticipated fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall is moving closer to becoming a reality.
In a recent interview, White stated that the fight is definitely going to happen, and it’s now just a matter of finalizing the details and getting the contracts signed. He emphasized that while he can’t announce a date yet, the matchup is confirmed.
The Jones vs. Aspinall fight is considered the most significant heavyweight title bout the UFC can currently organize, pitting the undisputed champion against the interim titleholder.
White reiterated the fight’s inevitability, saying it’s “done but it’s not done” in terms of official announcement, pending the finalization of agreements.
Aspinall last fought in July, defending his interim title against Curtis Blaydes, while Jones’s last fight was in November, where he defeated Stipe Miocic to retain the heavyweight championship.
Dana White believes this upcoming fight will be the biggest heavyweight clash in UFC history, anticipating significant attention and excitement once it’s officially announced and promoted.
Aspinall has expressed impatience with the delay, urging Jones to either accept the fight or retire, suggesting that avoiding the fight would be seen as avoiding him. Aspinall believes there are no other viable options for Jones at this time.
