Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant is projected to be out of action for a minimum of one week because of a sprained left ankle, according to reports. Durant sustained the injury during Sunday`s game against the Houston Rockets and will be absent for the Suns` upcoming three-game road trip against the Bucks, Celtics, and Knicks.
This injury comes at a critical time for Durant and the Suns, as they are currently trying to secure a spot in the Play-In Tournament. They are a couple of games behind the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings in the standings. Adding to their challenges, the Suns face the most difficult remaining schedule in the league, even beyond the week Durant is expected to be sidelined. Their schedule includes games against strong teams, making their play-in tournament aspirations significantly more challenging.
Durant`s injury occurred in the third quarter when he stepped on the foot of Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. while driving to the basket. He immediately went down and was helped to the locker room, unable to return to the game. At the time of the injury, Phoenix was trailing by a large margin.
Durant, known as one of basketball`s greatest scorers, had been performing exceptionally well recently, averaging impressive numbers in points, rebounds, and assists, while shooting an outstanding percentage from three-point range in the games leading up to Sunday`s match.
This season has been far from what Durant and the Suns had hoped for. Despite additions to strengthen their roster and the expectation of championship contention with their star players, the Suns are currently struggling in the Western Conference standings. With Durant`s absence, their chances of making a significant playoff run are now in serious doubt.
Considering the trade rumors surrounding Durant this season, this injury could potentially signal the end of his time with the Suns.
