Emma Raducanu Pulls Out of Berlin Open Due to Back Injury, Focuses on Wimbledon

Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the Berlin Tennis Open scheduled for next week as she continues to manage a persistent back issue.

The 22-year-old player has been troubled by this problem since competing in Strasbourg last month, before the French Open. The issue became evident again on Friday at the Queen`s Club, where she required an off-court medical timeout during her quarter-final loss to Qinwen Zheng.

Speaking after the match, Raducanu commented on her condition: “It`s been affecting me for a few weeks now, and I`ve had back issues in the past. I think it`s just a recurring vulnerability for me. I know it`s important to take good care of it.”

She added, “I`m not overly concerned that it`s something serious, but I do know it`s quite bothersome and requires proper and careful management.”

Raducanu had previously decided to accept a wild card entry to the WTA 500 event in the German capital, an event set to feature nine of the world`s top 10 players, instead of playing in Nottingham.

However, the former US Open champion has now chosen to prioritize rest and recovery to ensure she is fully prepared and fit for the upcoming Wimbledon championships.

This decision means Raducanu will likely miss out on being seeded for her home Grand Slam tournament. Despite this, she is reportedly confident she will be able to participate in the Lexus Eastbourne Open the week before Wimbledon.

Last year in Eastbourne, Raducanu achieved a significant milestone, securing her first career victory over a top-10 ranked player by defeating Jessica Pegula. Following that performance, she reached the fourth round at the All England Club.
