Cain Velasquez`s sentence has been announced, and it is less severe than what prosecutors initially sought.
The former UFC heavyweight champion was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday. This followed his no-contest plea in April to charges including attempted premeditated murder, felony assault, and gun-related offenses, stemming from his 2022 arrest.
The charges relate to a February 2022 incident where Velasquez pursued a vehicle in a high-speed chase. The vehicle contained Harry Goularte, accused of molesting Velasquez`s son. Velasquez fired shots at the vehicle, injuring Goularte`s stepfather, Paul Bender, in the arm. Prosecutors had requested a sentence of 30 years to life.
Velasquez will receive credit for the time he has already served.
