The status of UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones`s return to the octagon is currently unknown.
Jones`s most recent appearance was in November 2023 at UFC 309, where he secured a dominant stoppage victory over Stipe Miocic in his first title defense. Since this fight, anticipation has grown for a potential title unification bout against interim champion Tom Aspinall. Although UFC CEO Dana White has repeatedly suggested this fight will happen, Jones himself has remained relatively quiet regarding his plans.
However, “Bones” recently offered some comments on his fighting future while engaging with fans on social media during a visit to Thailand.
Responding to a question about the possibility of being stripped of his title, Jones remarked, “Stripped? Lol, do I come across as the type of person who cares about things like that.”
He went on to imply that he has already communicated his intentions to the UFC regarding his next moves, but these plans have not yet been made public to the fanbase.
“Y’all barking up the wrong tree,” Jones wrote. “I told the UFC my plans a long time ago. I have no clue why they haven’t shared them with you guys yet.”
Jones made his return after a significant layoff that followed him vacating the light heavyweight championship. He successfully captured his second divisional title at UFC 285 in March 2023 by submitting Ciryl Gane in the first round after Francis Ngannou`s departure. His fight against Miocic is his only competition since winning the heavyweight belt. The uncertainty surrounding his next opponent, particularly regarding a clash with Aspinall, leaves the future direction of the UFC`s heavyweight division heading into 2025 and beyond subject to speculation.
