Ilia Topuria’s New Nickname: La Leyenda

MMA News

UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria has announced his new nickname, and it`s already generating a wide range of responses.

Reactions have been mixed, with some fans expressing skepticism.

Formerly known as “El Matador,” Topuria has publicly stated that he will now be called “La Leyenda,” which translates from Spanish to “The Legend” in English.

The 28-year-old fighter boasts an impressive professional record of 16 wins and no losses, including a perfect 8-0 record in the UFC, and is the current UFC featherweight champion. He has secured remarkable knockout victories in his last two championship fights against Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway. Notably, Topuria is the only fighter to have defeated Volkanovski in the featherweight division and the only one to have finished Holloway with strikes.

As Topuria plans to move up to the lightweight division (155 pounds) in pursuit of a second title, he is seizing the opportunity to rebrand himself ahead of a potential matchup with Islam Makhachev. This decision has been met with some criticism, with one commenter remarking, “He is good, but he is so lame.”
