Sports News

Top-seeded Jessica Pegula triumphed over fellow American Sofia Kenin with a 6-3, 7-5 victory to secure the Charleston Open title.

In the first all-American final of this tournament since 1990, Pegula demonstrated her strong form by defeating Kenin in straight sets. This win marks her second singles title of the season and the eighth of her career.

Pegula started strongly, breaking Kenin`s serve in the opening game. Kenin showed resilience, saving two break points to level the score at 2-2.

Kenin briefly gained momentum, holding serve and taking the lead for the first time. However, she couldn`t maintain it, losing her serve twice more, which allowed Pegula to clinch the first set in just over thirty minutes.

Pegula, who had recently lost the Miami Open final to Aryna Sabalenka, faced serving challenges in the second set, allowing Kenin to gain an advantage.

Kenin utilized her backhand effectively and was close to forcing a decisive set when serving at 5-2. However, Pegula fought back, saving three set points and launching a remarkable comeback, winning six games in a row to secure the match and the championship.
