While Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall frequently disagree on various topics, they currently align on one point: deferring all official announcements regarding their potential fight to the UFC.
Jones, presently in Thailand for a reality show filming, addressed questions about the timeline for his anticipated heavyweight title unification bout against Aspinall during a seminar last weekend. He reiterated that the UFC is aware of his future plans, suggesting a possible reason why the promotion hasn`t addressed calls for his title to be vacated.
Only six months have passed since Jones`s last fight, and it appears he has engaged in discussions with the UFC regarding his potential return date.
“There’s a lot happening backstage involving the UFC, myself, and Tom,” Jones stated at the seminar. “The UFC is a major sports organization, and Tom and I have mutually decided to await their official announcements. Consequently, I’m restricted from discussing it further legally.”
Aspinall echoed similar sentiments recently, following a social media tease that ultimately disappointed fans when he stressed unequivocally that he leaves all fight announcements to the UFC.
Frustration has mounted over the lack of updates regarding their potential bout, leading to weeks of public exchanges between Jones and Aspinall via interviews and social media.
Despite repeated assurances from UFC CEO Dana White that the fight will happen, Aspinall has voiced increasing frustration, particularly as he nears a full year of inactivity since his last victory in July 2023.
While Jones`s latest comment offers no concrete details, it suggests ongoing discussions with the UFC and acknowledges that the potential fight against Aspinall is highly anticipated.
Will the fight actually happen? Only time, and the UFC`s official word, will provide the answer.
