Jon Jones Undecided on Future in UFC

MMA News

Jon Jones, the reigning UFC heavyweight champion, remains uncertain about whether he will fight again or permanently retire from mixed martial arts.

Jones last stepped into the octagon in November, securing a dominant victory over Stipe Miocic to claim his first title defense. While a potential clash with Tom Aspinall has been discussed for months, significant progress on scheduling the fight has been lacking, a situation that Aspinall has openly expressed frustration over. Jones` latest remarks are likely to amplify this.

When asked about the possibility of “one more rodeo,” Jones told Vic Blends, “I don’t know what life holds as far as fighting and competing.” He added that he anticipates being a lifelong martial artist, whether coaching or participating in exhibition matches. Jones noted that the UFC still has many talented competitors but feels his established position grants him more flexibility to step away and potentially return.

Previously, Jones indicated on social media that the UFC was aware of his plans, expressing surprise they hadn`t disclosed them. More recently, he participated in filming a reality show in Thailand, but this has not provided clarity on his potential return to fighting.

Despite some advocating for Jones to be stripped of his heavyweight title, it`s considered improbable given he hasn`t formally retired and has only been inactive for six months. The promotion is unlikely to remove the belt under these circumstances.

However, based on his recent comments, Jones does not appear to be in a hurry to return to active competition.

Reflecting on 2025, Jones stated, “Right now I’m just focusing on love, happiness, kindness… This year I’m saying yes to more opportunities. I’m traveling more. I’m consciously being kinder to people and that’s just the way of my mind right now is just love and kindness and peace and focusing on family and focusing on me, my aura.”

Outside the sport, Jones is actively exploring diverse opportunities, such as acting, a long-held ambition. He finds this transition enjoyable, appreciating the chance to add roles unrelated to MMA to his experience while still serving as a mentor to emerging fighters.

“Just trying to be the best businessman I can be,” Jones remarked. “I’m trying to prove to myself I can be great in more than one field. I try to be really good on camera with acting next.”

He also aims to guide other UFC fighters, sharing lessons learned regarding pay, endorsements, and identifying exploitative individuals, aspiring to be a valuable mentor.

Jones maintains that his passion for the sport will endure regardless of his future decisions regarding active competition.

“I’ll always love MMA,” Jones affirmed. “Somehow the universe made me one of the best at it so I’ll always love it. I’ll always love it.”
