Kyle Snyder Pleads Guilty to Disorderly Conduct, Fined After Arrest

MMA News

Olympic wrestler Kyle Snyder admitted guilt to a charge of disorderly conduct in a Columbus, Ohio court on Monday. This action concluded his legal case stemming from an arrest during a police operation targeting prostitution.

Snyder, a 29-year-old former student at The Ohio State University, was among sixteen individuals apprehended. Law enforcement initiated the sting by posting an online escort advertisement. Snyder contacted the number via phone and text messages, subsequently going to a Quality Inn and Suites. Upon arrival, he reportedly offered an undercover officer payment for sexual services.

Initially facing a charge of engaging in prostitution, Snyder entered a guilty plea on Monday to a less severe misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

Judge Cynthia Ebner accepted Snyder`s plea. This decision followed Snyder`s acceptance of responsibility for his conduct and his completion of a mandatory “John school” program, an educational course designed for individuals apprehended in prostitution-related stings.

Speaking remotely during the court session, Snyder commented, “I have gained significant insights throughout this experience. It has revealed a great deal about me personally, and I am committed to making considerably better choices moving forward.”

Regarding the program, he added, “The John school was exceptionally beneficial; it is an excellent curriculum. I learned that my decision stemmed from excessive pride and understood the broader consequences these actions have, not only on my family but also on the wider community. It proved to be a profoundly impactful course.”

Eric Hoffman, Snyder`s attorney, also addressed the court. He stated that the highly-regarded wrestler expressed deep regret for his behavior, describing the incident as a “momentary lapse in judgment.”

Ultimately, after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct, Snyder was ordered to pay a $250 fine in addition to covering court expenses.

Snyder is recognized as one of the most decorated American wrestlers ever, having competed in three Olympic Games and earning both gold and silver medals. Notably, he became the youngest American wrestler to win Olympic gold in 2016. His collegiate career at Ohio State included three NCAA championships.
