The Vegas Golden Knights are facing a 2-0 deficit in their second-round series against the Edmonton Oilers, and their path back just became significantly harder. Golden Knights captain Mark Stone left Game 3 due to an upper-body injury and will not return to the game.
During a chaotic first period, Stone was attempting to pressure Oilers forward Corey Perry when he lost his balance and slid onto the ice. Stone`s head made contact with Perry`s knee during the play. The Vegas captain took a moment to gather himself before returning to the bench.
Stone then headed down the tunnel to the locker room and did not reappear for the second period. Shortly thereafter, the Golden Knights confirmed that Stone would miss the remainder of the contest.
In addition to providing crucial leadership in the locker room, Stone has been a vital offensive contributor for the Golden Knights, currently leading the team in scoring this postseason with four goals in eight games. During the regular season, his 67 points ranked second on the team, trailing only Jack Eichel.
Stone was arguably the most instrumental player during the Golden Knights` successful 2023 Stanley Cup run. He not only delivered exceptional defensive play in difficult matchups but was also highly productive offensively, tallying 24 points in 22 playoff games.
With Stone now sidelined, Vegas will need to rely even more heavily on Jack Eichel. Other players, including Tomas Hertl and Ivan Barbashev, will be expected to step up and assume greater responsibility.
