The highly anticipated bantamweight rematch between Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O`Malley is scheduled to take place in less than a month.
Their first encounter occurred last September at UFC 306, where Dvalishvili secured a dominant unanimous decision victory over O`Malley in the main event to capture the bantamweight championship. O`Malley later stated that a hip injury affected his performance in that bout.
Now, “Suga” Sean O`Malley has the opportunity for redemption, and the UFC is putting significant promotional focus on this pivotal rematch.
Earlier this week, the UFC released a new promotional video for UFC 316. The promo prominently features the Dvalishvili vs. O`Malley rematch, initially highlighting O`Malley before shifting focus to the reigning champion. The video also briefly mentions the co-main event of the evening: a women`s bantamweight title clash between Julianna Peña and Kayla Harrison.
UFC 316 is scheduled for June 7th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
