Brad Marchand was the key player for the Florida Panthers, leading them to a thrilling 5-4 double-overtime victory against the Edmonton Oilers in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. Marchand scored two goals in the game, which tied the series at one game apiece as it prepares to return to South Florida.
Scoring was rapid and intense in the opening period, with the two teams collectively scoring five goals. This marked the highest-scoring first period in a Stanley Cup Final game since 2016.
Marchand`s game-winning goal was set up by teammate Anton Lundell. At the 8:04 mark of the second overtime period, Lundell sent the puck ahead to Marchand, who then tucked it past Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner off his pad.
This goal served as a form of redemption for Marchand, as he had an opportunity to win the game earlier in the first overtime. After receiving a pass from Carter Verhaeghe, Marchand attempted a couple of close-range shots on Skinner, but a rebound attempt struck the post, keeping the game going.
Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky faced a difficult first period, allowing three goals. However, he significantly improved his performance afterward, making 41 saves on 45 shots and conceding only one goal over the following three-plus periods.
