NHL Playoffs 2025: Stanley Cup Final schedule, bracket, scores, as Panthers take pivotal Game 5 in Edmonton

The Florida Panthers are now just one win away from securing their second consecutive Stanley Cup championship. They achieved this position by defeating the Edmonton Oilers 5-2 in a crucial Game 5. The Panthers established control of the game early on and effectively prevented the Oilers from generating momentum.

A major factor in Florida`s victory was their strong defensive performance, which successfully limited the Oilers` offensive attempts. Edmonton struggled to create dangerous scoring opportunities, and whenever they did, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was there to make key saves. Considering the intense atmosphere at Rogers Place, Game 5 might represent the Panthers` most impressive defensive effort of the series.

Although the Oilers managed to score two goals in the third period, they never truly threatened a comeback. Even their star players, Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, were largely contained. Draisaitl`s two shots on goal weren`t high-quality chances, and despite McDavid scoring on one of his two shots, Florida effectively minimized the impact of both superstars in this pivotal Game 5.

Having already bounced back once with a win in Game 4, Edmonton now needs another significant response. With their season on the line, the Oilers must travel to Florida for Game 6 on Tuesday. The Panthers, on the other hand, are focused on winning at home and preventing the series from going to a Game 7.
