Goaltender Frederik Andersen made 18 saves for Carolina, who will now await the winner of the series between the Florida Panthers and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In the Western Conference, the Winnipeg Jets managed to avoid elimination by shutting out the Dallas Stars 4-0 in Game 5. Connor Hellebuyck had a stellar performance, stopping all 22 shots he faced to record his second shutout of the series by the same score (Game 2 was also 4-0). Vladislav Namestnikov scored the game-winning goal for the home team. Nikolaj Ehlers added two more goals before Mark Scheifele sealed the victory with a shorthanded empty-netter.
However, the game also saw a potentially controversial moment that could impact Dallas. Stars captain Jamie Benn was involved in a physical exchange with Scheifele, raising the possibility that Benn could face a suspension for Game 6, scheduled for Saturday.
