The Florida Panthers appear to have found their peak form just in time for the playoffs. After securing wins in Games 3 and 4 on home ice, the reigning Stanley Cup champions traveled to Toronto and delivered a crushing blow to the Maple Leafs, scoring six consecutive goals for a decisive 6-1 victory. This win gives them a commanding 3-2 lead in the series and sets up a potential series-clinching game back in South Florida on Friday night.
Remarkably, the six goals scored in Game 5 were part of a larger run of nine unanswered goals by the Panthers, starting from the overtime winner in Game 3 last Friday and including their 2-0 shutout victory in Game 4. In Wednesday`s dominant performance, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was stellar, stopping the first 31 shots he faced and narrowly missing consecutive shutouts by just 66 seconds. The scoring for Florida was spread out, featuring the first career playoff goals for forwards Jesper Boqvist and A.J. Greer, along with contributions from defensemen Aaron Ekblad, Dmitry Kulikov, and Niko Mikkola.
Elsewhere in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, action continued Wednesday night with the Edmonton Oilers having a chance to advance to the next round by closing out their second-round series against the Vegas Golden Knights on the road.
