Denver Nuggets fans are anticipating the return of their star player, Nikola Jokic, to the court soon. After missing the last four games due to injury, Jokic is projected to rejoin the team`s lineup during their upcoming five-game homestand. Nuggets coach Michael Malone shared this positive update before Denver`s recent victory against the Houston Rockets.
According to Malone, Jokic is expected to play at some point during the five home games. While he confirmed Jokic would not play in the immediate past game and was unlikely for the next one, the focus is on evaluating his condition upon returning to Denver.
Following their recent win, the Nuggets` home schedule includes games against the Bulls, Bucks, Jazz, and a back-to-back series against the Timberwolves and Spurs in the coming days.
Jokic has been managing an ankle injury for some time but has generally played through it. He even humorously commented on his long-term experience with ankle issues when questioned about limping during a game earlier in March.
There was a moment when Coach Malone inquired if Jokic would consider resting to recover from his ankle and elbow injuries, particularly before a game that was part of a back-to-back set. Jokic, however, firmly declined the suggestion.
Despite his eagerness to play, Jokic has been logging significant minutes recently, averaging nearly 40 minutes per game over the last eight games. This heavy workload has only resulted in an even record for the Nuggets. The team`s need for Jokic on the court is undeniable, highlighted by their less successful performance in his absence.
The Nuggets, with a current record of 45-27, recognize the importance of Jokic being healthy, especially with the playoffs approaching. While short-term results are important, ensuring Jokic is at his best for the postseason is a priority.
Jokic`s exceptional season includes averaging a triple-double with impressive figures in points, rebounds, and assists, positioning him as a leading contender for the MVP award alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
With their recent victory, the Nuggets currently hold the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference standings, closely positioned behind the No. 2 seed Rockets and ahead of the No. 4 seed Lakers.
