Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray Conclude Coaching Partnership

Sports News

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have ended their coaching arrangement after a six-month period.

Djokovic made a surprising move in November 2024 by adding his former rival, Murray, to his coaching team in preparation for the 2025 Australian Open.

Under Murray`s guidance, Djokovic reached the quarter-finals in Melbourne, defeating Carlos Alcaraz, but was forced to withdraw due to injury during his semi-final match against Alexander Zverev.

Initially, the plan was for their collaboration to extend through the French Open and Wimbledon tournaments. However, a recent decline in performance, including first-round losses in Djokovic`s last two events, led the pair to part ways approximately 12 days before the start of Roland-Garros.

“Thank you coach Andy for all the hard work, fun and support over last six months, on and off the court. Really enjoyed deepening our friendship together,” Djokovic stated regarding the conclusion of their partnership.

Murray also commented: “Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together and thanks to his team for all their hard work over the past six months. I wish Novak all the best for the rest of the season.”

The split follows Djokovic`s recent withdrawal from the Italian Open, occurring after he suffered a streak of three consecutive defeats.

Having been defeated by Matteo Arnaldi at the Madrid Open, the 37-year-old player faces the prospect of heading into the French Open without having secured a win on clay since his victory over Spain`s Alcaraz at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Djokovic`s quest for his fourth French Open title could become more challenging, as his failure to guarantee a top-four seeding for the tournament means he might encounter a strong opponent in a potential blockbuster quarter-final tie.
