Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jake Walman has been sanctioned with fines for two distinct violations committed during Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.
The NHL`s Department of Player Safety imposed a $5,000 fine on Walman for a roughing incident involving Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk. During a skirmish in front of the Panthers` net, Walman was observed delivering several punches towards Tkachuk.
Additionally, the Oilers blueliner was assessed another $5,000 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct directed at the Panthers bench. Late in the second period, Walman was seen squirting water from a bottle over the glass in the direction of the opposing team`s bench.
Walman accumulated six penalty minutes over the course of Game 3 and did not record a point, marking the first game in the series where he was held off the scoresheet.
Monday`s contest featured a combined total of 140 penalty minutes between the Oilers and Panthers. A large line brawl erupted midway through the second period, resulting in misconduct penalties being issued to six players, including Sam Bennett, Mattias Ekholm, and Darnell Nurse.
Utilizing their depth, the Panthers asserted dominance over the Oilers from the opening face-off, ultimately securing a convincing 6-1 victory. Brad Marchand contributed to the Panthers` offensive output by scoring for the third time in the Stanley Cup Final.
