Emma Raducanu is managing expectations for her Wimbledon performance this year and described her first-round opponent, fellow Brit Mimi Xu, as “very dangerous” ahead of their opening match.
While she reached the fourth round at the All England Club last year – her best Grand Slam result since her memorable 2021 US Open victory – Raducanu`s preparation for this tournament has been affected by undisclosed difficult personal news and a back injury.
The British number one stated, “Honestly, I don`t have high expectations for myself this year. I`ve been handling some challenges. My goal is just to get out there and fully experience the moment and the event.”

“I know opportunities to play at Wimbledon don`t come around often. You get it once a year for a limited time. I`m simply looking forward to stepping onto the court and soaking in the atmosphere and surroundings,” she added.
“Right now, I`m just happy to be here at Wimbledon. I see that as a significant motivation to keep going and deal with everything else later.”
Raducanu on Facing Fearless Mimi Xu
The 22-year-old Raducanu will be the more experienced player when she faces the 17-year-old Wimbledon debutante Xu on Court One on Monday and anticipates a tough encounter.

Raducanu commented, “I think it`s a very dangerous match, very difficult. Mimi is a genuinely very good player. I`ve practiced with her previously. She possesses many strong aspects in her game and moves exceptionally well.”
“For her, it`s a situation where she has nothing to lose. I recall my first Wimbledon appearance at 18; it`s a fantastic feeling. You feel absolutely fearless.”
“It`s going to be a challenge, but one I`m looking forward to and feel ready for. I know I`ll need to perform at a very high level if I want to progress,” she stated.
“It`s positive to see a new generation coming through. It keeps us veterans on our toes and motivates us to improve.”
Katie Boulter Embraces Underdog Role
British number two Katie Boulter is also scheduled to compete on Monday, facing ninth seed Paula Badosa. The 28-year-old expressed confidence, stating, “I really believe I can perform strongly on these courts.”

“I don`t think any seeded player would be eager to face me in the first round of their section of the draw,” she added.
“I`m incredibly excited,” Boulter said. “My situation coming into the tournament this year feels entirely different. Not being seeded means I`m somewhat of an underdog, and I quite enjoy that feeling.”
“It allows me to go out there and play without restraint. I have nothing to lose.”
