Biaggio Ali Walsh, who entered PFL 7 as the overwhelming favorite on the fight card, unexpectedly suffered his first professional defeat.
Muhammad Ali`s grandson was given incredibly high odds, listed as high as -1600 by some bookmakers, when he stepped into the cage in Chicago against Ronnie Gibbs. Gibbs, a 31-year-old local fighter competing in just his second professional bout, stunned the mixed martial arts world by securing a victory via arm triangle choke in the second round, delivering a massive upset.
In the opening minute of the fight, Ali Walsh landed a powerful right hand that knocked Gibbs down. He continued to pressure, hurting his opponent multiple times in the first round, and it seemed like it would be a quick night for the favorite.
However, Gibbs survived the initial onslaught and made it to the second round. There, he successfully took the fight to the ground. It was on the canvas where Gibbs demonstrated his advantage and ultimately secured the hold that led to his memorable upset victory.
With this significant win, Ronnie Gibbs improves his professional record to 2-0, with both wins coming by way of finish. His pro debut earlier this year also resulted in a second-round stoppage.
For Biaggio Ali Walsh, this loss snaps his impressive eight-fight winning streak under the PFL banner. He will now need to return to training and reassess his path forward after this setback.
