Natalia Silva has set her sights on championship gold following a completely dominant performance against former champion Alexa Grasso at UFC 315. Silva showcased exceptional striking and movement, effectively neutralizing Grasso throughout the fight.
The Brazilian challenger consistently landed a variety of strikes, preventing Grasso from mounting any significant offense. This masterful display secured Silva the biggest victory of her professional career.
The judges` scorecards reflected Silva`s dominance, with all three scoring the bout 30-27 in her favor, resulting in a unanimous decision win.
“We knew there was a path [to victory],” Silva stated after the fight. “My fighting style is different and it’s by Natalia Silva. Dana [White], that belt’s going to look beautiful on me!”
Silva established control early with her speed and footwork, maintaining her preferred striking distance by mixing quick kicks and punches. Grasso struggled to keep up with the pace and movement, managing to land a jab before attempting a takedown, which Silva successfully countered before resetting.
A particularly notable strike was a sharp side kick from Silva that landed directly on Grasso`s face, eliciting surprised reactions from the crowd.
As the rounds progressed, Silva continued to pick her shots effectively, landing powerful punch combinations and snapping off kicks in rapid succession. Her constant movement proved a significant challenge for Grasso, who found herself chasing and reacting to Silva`s offense.
Late in the second round, Grasso finally managed to press Silva against the cage and unleash strikes. However, Silva absorbed and returned blows effectively, emerging from the exchange largely undamaged.
Grasso`s difficulties persisted into the final frame. Silva maintained her evasive movement, landing crisp counter-strikes. Stiff combinations from Silva repeatedly snapped Grasso`s head back, visibly increasing her frustration.
A quick head kick from Silva opened a cut and caused bleeding above Grasso`s eye. This strike seemingly sealed the outcome. Silva began her celebration, while a dejected Grasso faced her second consecutive defeat.
This was an incredibly impressive performance from Silva, taking out a former divisional champion. The victory potentially solidifies her position as the number one contender, especially as the championship situation is about to be decided later at UFC 315 in the co-main event between Valentina Shevchenko and Manon Fiorot.
