UFC 317 Card Altered: Undefeated Fighter Steps In

MMA News

The fight card for UFC 317, scheduled for this week, has experienced a recent change just days before the pay-per-view event.

The promotion confirmed that Sedriques Dumas has been removed from his scheduled middleweight contest against fellow newcomer Jackson McVey due to undisclosed reasons. Stepping in as a replacement will be another undefeated athlete making his organizational debut, Christopher Ewert.

Ewert, 31 years old, turned professional in December 2022 and is now set to make his first Octagon appearance less than three years into his career on the annual International Fight Week card. Holding a perfect 7-0 record heading into the bout, he was originally slated to compete on Dana White’s Contender Series later in August. Ewert`s recent victories include a first-round knockout and a decision win competing for Fury FC.

His opponent, the 26-year-old McVey, boasts a 6-0 professional record with a remarkable streak of finishing all of his opponents in the very first round. Only one of McVey`s fights has lasted beyond the two-minute mark.

UFC 317 is headlined by a fight for the vacant lightweight championship between former featherweight king Ilia Topuria and ex-155-pound titleholder Charles Oliveira. The co-main event features flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja defending his belt against prolific knockout artist Kai Kara-France.
