Veteran Middleweights Added to UFC 319: du Plessis vs. Chimaev

MMA News

Veteran middleweight fighters Michal Oleksiejczuk and Gerald Meerschaert are scheduled to compete at UFC 319. Confirmation followed an announcement by Oleksiejczuk`s team on social media.

The event is set to be a pay-per-view card held at the United Center in Chicago on August 16th.

Oleksiejczuk, with a record of 20-9 (1 NC), aims to build on his recent success. He ended a three-fight losing streak with a first-round knockout victory over Sedriques Dumas in April, which was his first fight since joining a new team in Sao Paulo.

Initially competing at light heavyweight, the Polish fighter has compiled a 4-4 record since moving down to the 185-pound division. Notably, all four of his middleweight wins have been first-round knockouts against opponents like Sam Alvey, Cody Brundage, Chidi Njokuani, and Dumas.

Gerald Meerschaert (37-19) is looking to return to winning ways after suffering consecutive defeats to Reinier de Ridder and Brad Tavares, bringing his UFC promotional record to 12-11.

The 37-year-old holds a significant UFC record: the most stoppages in the middleweight division`s history, totaling 12 finishes. He boasts a 100% finishing rate within the octagon, featuring 11 submissions and one knockout. Among those defeated by Meerschaert are Bryan Barberena, Edmen Shahbazyan, and Bruno Silva.

The main event of UFC 319 features the middleweight championship bout between current champion Dricus du Plessis and the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev.
